Striker: True enough, if you're talking about factory race bikes. But when you're talking about bone stock street bikes, the screaming four bangers are faster.

Lol dude the HP2 is a great bike. But the 1198S would rip it a new one if they were to compete on a race track lol...

I rode a Ducati for the first time the other day having owned litre class for many years. I was blown away by the low down torque of the twin compared to the inline four bikes and even thought of buying the 749 I test rode. I then rode the 849 and finally the 1198 which I brought. The reason? Jap bikes are amazing they only get exciting in the higher rev range which even in first gear will exceed the max speed limit here. The Ducati is amazing even standing still. Ferrari of motorbikes. I agree!

Mentor2506 is exactly right in what he is saying. If you can actually afford to pay for a Ducati which is not so drastically expensive, considering that you are usually only paying a couple of grand more for a much better bike, then it is definitely worth it. There are many great bikes but if I was given £13,000 I would pick the ducati every time. You cannot beat its looks (apart from maybe the MV Agusta F4) and its performance will give you more of a thrill than any of the Japanese bikes!

This bike is just like every Italian car: Expensive, Well built, require a lot of maintenance and money to do so, but are entirely worth it if it's in your blood. My blood runs red with Ferrari and my heart beats like a Ducati. The Jap. bikes are great if you're not trying to be showy or just want a regular performance bike

Ducati's are damn near the best of the best for sport bikes, they don't just roll off an assembly line every 5 minutes. They are better than most any other bikes (GSXR's, CBR's, Ninjas, etc) With 1 downfall. Maintenance, valve adjustments cost way more for the desmodromic, dry clutch doesn't last as long, things like that. I don't count price as a downfall because you wouldnt give a ferrari a bad rating because it costs too much. Every little detail ducati has taken into account with their bikes

Maybe because the hp2 is 130 hp and the 1198 is 170 hp?

ducati's are sweet, but i can't stand the sound of the dry clutch. when idling they sound retarded. zx-10r is better value for money. if you're going to buy an expensive exotic built for racing why not spend 30 grand and get a bmw hp2 sport.

MSRP on the 1198 is about $16.5k while the S trim (the one in the video) adds an additional 5 grand. If you're getting an 1198, I think the S is money well spent - full Ohlins suspension, lighter weight, and a horsepower boost. Of course, if you want to learn to ride, ignore all of the above. This is an extremely powerful, purpose-bred race bike - I'm an experienced motorcyclist and would not ride one on the street. You should look at the ninja 250r - cheap, fun, and a great tool to learn on.

why would you wanna spend too much money on something like this. i mean the yamaha r1 for example or any 1000cc japanese bikes are already satisfying. besides japanese motorcycles are known for being reliable. i dont know about the ducati.

But they are individual, beautiful and have character. The jap bikes are typically a dime a dozen, everyone seems to be on the bang-for-buck train. With Ducati you are buying into a brand.
